From Gym Class Dropout to Coach

In high school, I dreaded gym so much I took summer school just to knock it out in six weeks, avoiding an entire year of awkward dodgeball and mile runs. Fast forward a bit — I was diagnosed with cancer at 17 and told the chemo would leave me with lifelong health risks like heart issues, bone density loss, and more.

That’s when fitness became my lifeline. What started as a way to fight for my health became something much bigger: proof that movement could give me strength, confidence, and joy I never expected to find in the gym.

After all the scans and chemotherapy was done, my doctors urged me to adopt fitness as a lifeline. But like the stubborn Capricorn I am, I resisted at first — because I still didn’t find exercise enjoyable. It wasn’t until junior year of college, when my partner suggested we try the indoor cycling classes at the rec center that things shifted.

I’ll never forget that first class. We had to roll out our own bikes, the room was packed, and I didn’t know what I was getting into. But the instructor was incredible and taught a rhythm-based ride that felt more like a dance party than a workout. I was immediately hooked. That class changed how I thought about fitness: for the first time, it felt fun.

Today, I’m a certified personal trainer, marathon runner, and lifter who helps people discover that working out doesn’t have to suck. It can actually be fun, energizing, and (dare I say) something you look forward to.

I’ve spent years as a group fitness coach and instructor. From teaching cycling to coaching at [solidcore], I’ve seen firsthand the magic that happens when people show up to move together. Group fitness isn’t just about sweat — it’s about connection, energy, and having someone cheer you on when you’re ready to quit. Those experiences shaped my style as a trainer: supportive, motivating, and always focused on helping you feel like you belong.

Whether we’re working 1:1 in a gym or you’re clipping into a bike in a packed studio, my mission is the same: to make fitness approachable, enjoyable, and something you actually stick with — because when you find the right fit, it can change your whole life.
